About Kagan Sezgin
Mortgage broker based in Mickleham, working with buyers and owners across Melbourne’s northern growth corridor.

Who I am
I’m Kagan (full name Onur-Kagan Sezgin). Most people find “Onur” hard to say, so “Kagan” is what I go by — though you’ll see the full name on the legal documents, because that’s what I’m registered as.
Before this, I worked in engineering and roof truss detailing — both jobs where getting the numbers right, and catching the detail everyone else misses, is the entire job. Somewhere in the process of arranging my own home loans, I noticed I was doing more research than the brokers I was using, because digging into that kind of detail is something I actually enjoy. That, combined with wanting work that actually helps people get somewhere that matters to them, made the move into broking an easy call.
I speak Turkish fluently as well as English. If you would rather go through a loan in Turkish — or bring along a parent who would — we can talk the whole thing through that way. The paperwork stays in English, because lenders’ documents are, but I’ll explain every page of it. Türkçe de konuşabiliriz — Türkçe sayfam.
Why a broker rather than a bank
A bank can only offer you its own products. That’s not a criticism — it’s just the limit of what a bank employee is able to do.
There’s also a legal difference that gets very little attention. Mortgage brokers are bound by a best interests duty. Where our interests and yours conflict, we are legally required to put yours first. Bank staff are not subject to that duty.
That obligation applies to every broker equally — it isn’t something that makes me different from other brokers. But it is a real difference between a broker and a branch.
How I work
Honestly, and with a bias toward telling you things you might not want to hear. If your situation isn’t ready, you’ll hear that — along with specifically what would need to change and roughly how long it might take. That’s more useful than an application that gets declined.
I explain the reasoning behind a recommendation rather than just the recommendation. You should be able to push back on it. If you can’t follow why a particular lender is being suggested, I haven’t explained it well enough.
And I don’t publish interest rates on this site. Rates change constantly and vary by lender, loan purpose, deposit size and your circumstances — any number published here would be misleading within weeks. That conversation happens properly, with your actual situation in front of us.
Where I work
I’m based in Mickleham, VIC 3064, and most of my clients are across the northern growth corridor — Craigieburn, Kalkallo, Donnybrook, Wollert, Beveridge and the surrounding suburbs.
That matters more than it might sound. This corridor has its own pattern: house and land packages, two-part contracts, land that takes two years to title, approvals that expire before settlement. Those are the conversations I have most weeks, and knowing the pattern shortens a lot of them.
This is a home-based practice, so there’s no walk-in office. Meetings happen in person locally, or by phone and video — whichever suits you.
Getting in touch
For most home loans there is no fee to you — the lender pays the commission — and talking it through commits you to nothing. Nothing is submitted to a lender, and your credit file is not accessed, without your say-so.
Have a question about your situation?
For most home loans there is no fee to you, and talking it through commits you to nothing. Even if the answer is "wait six months", you will know why — and what to do in the meantime.
